Find which Volvo Penta engines are Volvo design, Indenor, Prima, or Perkins-Shibaura. Match the family, then shop that industrial channel.

Volvo Penta uses several base-engine families

The rocker cover names Volvo Penta. The block may be Volvo, Indenor, Prima, or Shibaura.

The D1/D2 generation uses Shibaura via the Perkins-Shibaura joint venture. I still grade several codes as likely or blank. A source must confirm the exact industrial suffix.

Indenor (Peugeot). MD21 and MD27/29/32

• MD21A / MD21B: Indenor XDP 4/90 (Peugeot 504 diesel family). Ford Lehman 4D61 and Vetus P4.21 share that base-engine story.

• MD27, MD29, MD32A (and MD31): Indenor XDP 6/90. One Indenor six-cylinder parts book. 113 confirmed Volvo to Indenor edges live here. Example: water pump 826920 = Indenor 571798. Full guide: MD27/29/32 = Indenor.

These engines never entered the modern Volvo PPS-style online system. That scarcity is why the Indenor number matters.

Perkins Prima. MD22

MD22L / MD22P (and TMD22) marinize Perkins Prima (Rover O-series-derived) base engines. I grade the suffix as likely M50 or M60, by variant. Buy internals as Perkins Prima.

Perkins 100-series / Shibaura Perama. MD2010-2040

• MD2010: Perkins 102-05 (2-cyl 100-series / Shibaura).

• MD2020: Perama M20 (103-06 class). Some blocks cast 103-07. If you order pistons or a head gasket, verify the plate first.

• MD2030: Perama M30 (103-10). That code opens the Perkins M30 catalogue I've got, once it's bridged to the engine.

• MD2040: Perama M35 (103-15). Industrial life also badges this as Caterpillar 3013. HP differs by governed rpm.

D1 / D2. Shibaura (Perkins-Shibaura)

I publish these as likely. Some D1 codes stay unverified or blank.

• D2-75 / D2-60: Shibaura N844L-T (2.2 L, 84×100 mm, turbo. D2-60 with CAC).

• D2-50 / D2-55: Shibaura N844L NA.

• D2-40: Shibaura N843 (verify the exact code).

• D1-30 / D1-20 / D1-13: Shibaura 3-cyl and small twins. I haven't confirmed every industrial code.

Volvo-own designs

Older MD engines, 2000-series exceptions not listed above, and many later Volvo diesels are Volvo designs or unmapped. If I haven't sourced a donor, the base-engine line is blank. I don't guess.

Aftermarket impellers and filters may still interchange. Group B Jabsco 1210-0001 includes Volvo OEM 825940 / 860203 / 875811 on the impeller chart. The pumps match. Aftermarket impellers follow the pump.

What you still buy as Volvo / marine

Heat exchanger, raw-water pump body, saildrive or gearbox, wet exhaust, many anodes. Marine-only parts.
