Marine Diesel Parts Cross-Reference
Look up a marine diesel part number and find the cheaper tractor, industrial or aftermarket equivalent. Every match has a source and a confidence grade.
Why a marine diesel part is often a tractor part
Almost every marine diesel under about 150 hp sits on a mass-produced industrial or tractor base engine. The marinizer buys a minimal block. There's no radiator or cooling fan on that engine. Beta, Nanni, Solé, Westerbeke, Ford Lehman and others then fit the marine kit: heat exchanger, raw-water pump, wet exhaust and gearbox. The name on the rocker cover is marine.
The pistons, rings, bearings, oil filter and fuel filter still belong to the base engine. You can usually buy those numbers through agricultural and industrial channels for a lot less.
Engine pages name the base engine. Wear items cross to aftermarket numbers, with a source and a confidence grade on every edge. You can use the engine pages and guides without touching a marketplace button.
A worked example: Beta 38 oil and fuel filter
The Beta 38 uses a Kubota V1505 base engine. Beta's internal code is BV1505. Drop the B and you've got the block. The filters are stock Kubota 05-series spin-ons:
- Oil filter. Kubota
HH164-32430(supersedes towardHH1C0-32430). WIX51307, FleetguardLF3706. Beta sells the same can as211-70510/02. - Fuel filter. Kubota
15221-43170. WIX33390, BaldwinBF940. Beta211-60210.
Buy those under the Kubota or WIX number if you want the cheaper part. The heat exchanger, raw-water pump body, marine gearbox and wet exhaust stay marine. The tractor book has the internals. It doesn't list that marinizing kit. Full walk-through: why marine diesels are marinized tractor engines. Same family: Beta = Kubota.
What you can look up here
- Engine pages. Specs, the base-engine blurb, BOM figures when a book is linked, and a savings view of industrial internals when a base-engine catalogue is loaded.
- Part pages. OEM interchange, aftermarket members, and standard bearings or seals in the same cluster. Pages with a cross-reference edge go in the sitemap.
- Guides. Start with how to use this site. Then what you still buy as marine. Then the impeller, oil filter and fuel filter charts.
Yanmar GM and YM sailboat engines are Yanmar marine designs. They have no tractor base engine. Older Volvo Penta MD and 2000-series engines include Volvo-own blocks, plus marinized Indenor or Perkins-Shibaura engines. The Volvo families and Yanmar guides name each family. If a donor isn't sourced, the base-engine line is blank. Don't assume Kubota.
How a cross-reference is graded
Every equivalent is confirmed, likely, or unverified. Confirmed means an authoritative source, or more than one independent source. Likely means a credible source that hasn't been double-checked. Unverified is a lead. Still match the part in your hand, a dealer, or an official catalogue before you order.
Part numbers supersede. Marinizers change pumps mid-model. A spin-on that threads on can still be the wrong bypass. Methodology is the longer version.
Who's behind it
I'm Paul Young. Corrections: contact. Part-number equivalences and engine specs. OEM PDFs and dealer prices stay with their owners.
Search is in the box at the top of every page. Guides are in the header so you can read how the mapping works. Confirmed, likely and unverified live on the methodology page.
If a cell is empty, a sourced number isn't in yet. The cell stays blank.
Typical path:
- Find your engine.
- Read the base-engine sentence.
- Copy the industrial or aftermarket number from a cluster.
- Check thread, gasket, impeller size or a dealer before you spend the money.
The Beta 38 / Kubota V1505 filter numbers on this homepage are the same ones on the live engine page. The start-here guide uses the same Volvo MD29 / Indenor water-pump numbers as that live page.
