Marine diesel oil filter cross-reference chart (Kubota / WIX / Fram / Fleetguard)

Oil filter cross-reference for Kubota-based marine diesels (Beta, Nanni, Universal). Covers the Kubota HH150 and HH164 spin-ons and WIX, Fram, Fleetguard, and Mann equivalents.

The Kubota spin-on family

Most small marine diesels in this scope use a Kubota base engine. See the Beta, Nanni and Universal guides. They use just two Kubota spin-on oil filters. Both have wide, cheap aftermarket equivalents. Buy the WIX, Fram, or Fleetguard number.

Small can: Kubota HH150-32430 (Z / D-series, about under 1.5 L)

This can fits the smaller Kubota blocks. The blocks are Z482, Z602, D722, D902, D1005, and D1105. Marine derivatives include Beta 10-30, Nanni 2-cylinder and 3-cylinder, and smaller Universal.

Large can: Kubota HH164-32430 (V-series)

This can fits four-cylinder V-series blocks. The blocks are V1505, V2003, V2203, V2403, V3300, and V3600. Marine derivatives include Beta 35-90, Nanni N4.38 and up, and larger Universal.

WIX WL7083, Fram PH4558, Baldwin B7277, Donaldson P552849.

Fram PH8A (Lehman code 2N50). Grade this row likely. Verify.

Notes

Confirm the thread and gasket size against your old filter before you order. A spin-on that threads on can still have the wrong bypass rating. See Methodology. See also the fuel filter chart.

How to match a spin-on

A filter that threads on can still be wrong. Check four things against the old can or the Kubota book.

  1. Check the thread. Don't assume UNF because a US chart said so. Kubota small diesels in this family typically use metric spin-ons.
  1. Check the gasket outside diameter and whether the can holds the gasket.
  1. Measure can height. Marine V-series installs sometimes need a shorter or taller can than a tractor.
  1. Check bypass / anti-drainback. If the tractor listing and the marine listing disagree, stay with the number I graded confirmed for that Kubota code.

WIX 51311 / 51515 are the taller cousins of 51307. Check header-tank and engine-rail clearance. If you still doubt the bypass spec, ask a Kubota dealer.

Supersessions

Kubota HH150-32430 supersedes toward HH1J0-32430. HH164-32430 supersedes toward HH1C0-32430. An older number and its successor are the same filter family. Aftermarket charts often still print the old Kubota number. That print is normal.

Scope of this chart

I've listed on-engine oil spin-ons for the Kubota families above, plus the extra Lombardini and Ford rows. A filter that threads on still needs a thread, gasket, height, and bypass check. Ford SP135 / Sabre 120 oil filter WIX 51515 has the grade likely. If your engine is Perkins or a Volvo own design, don't force a Kubota HH150 onto it. See Perkins marine vs industrial and the Volvo families guide.
